Dordogne Mayhem

Dordogne Mayhem is without doubt one of the best Mountain Biking Trails in the Dordogne. Dordogne Mayhem offers numerous loops that can be combined with each other. This trail(s) is a one way system, so serious riders can open up without the fear of having someone coming the opposite direction. Depending on each individuals preference, there are unlimted possibilities, from very fast single tracks, sharp and mild switchbacks, numerous whoopie doo’s, and even a section for the downhill warriors ( this section requires full body armour and full suspension bike)
Anyone looking to spend a few hours of Mountain Biking fun in the Dordogne, shoud seriously consider this trail.

Devils Playground

Devils Playground is Walking Dordogne’s latest Mountain biking adventure.
A 2 – 3 hour strenuous loop with some brutal up’s and downs.
Takkle the “Devils Backbone” try and get past the guardian of the ”Seven Brothers” scream down “Satans Fury” and get out of “Hells Gorge” in one piece!!..

Valley of Revenge

“Valley of Revenge” is one of Walking Dordogne’s popular off road cycling trips, it takes you on a 3-4 hour loop with plenty of up’s and downs.
The Valley of Revenge takes you on single tracks, double tracks and just a couple of hard tracks, and will spoil you with some fantastic scenery the Dordogne is famous for.

In the Footsteps of the Mammoth

In the footsteps of the Mammoth is a exciting 4 – 5 hour round trip hike, 90% of this walk is off the beaten track, it is also part of the “Valley of Caves” and “Ode to the Neaderthal” trips. Highligts on this trip are numerous caves, some excellent troglodytes, an amazing rock ledge and shelters, fantastic views of the Vezere Valley and a ruined village, left behind hundreds of years ago.

The Vezere Region of the Dordogne, contains 147 prehistoric sites dating from the Paleolithic and 25 decorated caves. It is particularly interesting from an ethnological and anthropological, as well as an aesthetic point of view because of its cave paintings, especially those of the Lascaux Cave, whose discovery in 1940 was of great importance for the history of prehistoric art.
Most people visiting the area visit attractions such as Lascaux, Roque St Cristophe, Madeleine etc.. but very few people get to see the real hidden treasures that are riddled along the Vezere river.. that is until now. Walking Dordogne’s trip along the Vezere River is a fantastic trip to remote and (almost) forgotten prehistoric and Medieval places of interest

Going Underground

Going Underground this adventure can be added to, or combined with most of our Vezere Valley hikes. ** This adventure is suitable for most people, but requires a high level of fitness, the ability to clamber, and are not claustrophobic.

We have spent 2 years exploring the caves, and beyond. “Going Underground” is NOT a “Potholing” adventure, but an adventure for hikers that want to experience another world underground.
These caves, chambers and tunnels have been used for 1000’s of years, and they played an extremely important role during the Second World War, where they were used by the French Resistance.

Hells Gorge

Hells Gorge * round trip * 4-5 hours

Hells Gorge, the name say’s it all, we follow an ancient track that cuts through the gorge. Here you will see the largest Prehistoric Overhang in Europe. We will venture into some hidden and unmapped caves and shelters, a 200m medieval escape tunnel. You will also explore the ruins of a Templars Hospital, an ancient sacrafice spot, excellent views and lots more. All in all an unforgettable 4-5 hour round trip.

Prehistoric Dwellings of the Vezere Valley

Evidence of our ancestors living in the Vezere Valley dates back to more than 460,000 years ago. Our oldest ancestors were Nomads that would follow the herds of wild animals trekking through the Valley. These ancestors would stay in caves and nomadic shelters. Later on, our ancestors started to settle in the vezere valley, and their homes became more permanent.

On the Prehistoric Dwellings of the Vezere Valley excursion, we take you on a tour of some excellent unmapped Troglodytes, caves, shelters, overhangs and nomadic dwellings. We will explain “hands on” why, when, where, what and how our ancestors survived and thrived in the Vezere Valley.
